Research / Pillars & Groups / Human Factors & Design / SuPerWorld / Internships / Addressing evacuation exercises for multi-hazards in Europe.
17 January. 2021
This project will focus on some vulnerable areas of the south of Europe (i.e. Spain, Portugal or Greece) and a geospatial analysis based on some GIS tool will be performed, to identify, analyze and assess evacuation possibilities, identifying zones of danger and high risk. The data that will be used for analysis are satellite images of affected areas by natural disasters, census data, as well as a land use database. The methodology would be to use GIS to identify residential areas and locations of the disasters happening, trying to assess the dangers/risks to infrastructures and humans. The expected outcome is to provide evacuation maps for residents of the selected test sites, and to assess the overall dangers of the area under study.
Required Skills
Modelling skills, GIS tools, geospatial analysis
Skills Level
Intermediate knowledge of GIS
Objectives

To model risks of natural disasters in specific regions, To assess evacuation possibilities and disaster response actions, to assess overall dangers towards better policy-making

Expected Deliverables: Final report, GIS application, Scientific publication
