About the Position  

The Centre is seeking for a Thinker Maker Space Technician (Maternity Leave Cover) to join its team for a period of 6 months starting 1st of September. The successful candidate will play an integral role in ensuring the smooth running of the Thinker Maker Space (TMS) of CYENS for the suggested period, the operation of which may be co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the EU in the framework of the Operational Programme “Competitiveness and Sustainable Development 2014-2020”, Priority Axis 6: “Integrated Sustainable Urban Development for the Programming Period 2014-2020 and in the framework of the implementation of the Integrated Development Strategy of Nicosia Municipality. 


Responsibilities of Thinker Maker Space Technician:  

  • Organize, set up and manage the daily operation and maintenance of TMS’ Media Desk.  

  • Manage the lending and booking of equipment and keep a clear inventory of the stored equipment and consumables.  

  • Assist in monitoring TMS’ premises, ensuring a safe work environment adherent to the Centre’s Health and Safety policy including the proper usage of tools.  

  • Assistance during high demand in digital fabrication services (i.e. laser and 3D printing equipment).  

  • Assist members on their engagement with the makerspace, the preparation and presentation of their projects (Photography, Videography, 3D scanning photogrammetry or laser scanning).  

  • Aid in the procurement of equipment and consumables for the makerspace.  

  • Facilitate workshops aimed at educating members on the use of the makerspace equipment for the fulfilment of personal and group projects.  


General qualifications and requirements 

  1. University Degree (Bachelor’s Degree or Degree of a level equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree) or Diploma or Certificate or other study title or qualifications in Design, Architecture, Engineering or related field. 

  1. Demonstrated successful completion of Maker/Designer associated projects (Artistic or Technological).  

  1. Knowledge in 3D and 2D design software (for example: Rhino, Adobe Illustrator etc.).  

  1. Have an aesthetic awareness and perspective within a digital fabrication studio.  

  1. Experience providing individual/small group instruction and ability to offer advice to and work closely with young inventors.  

  1. Knowledge and experience with digital fabrication equipment (3D printer, laser cutter, CNC router) will be considered an advantage.  

  1. Knowledge of Arduino, and Raspberry Pi will be considered an advantage. 

  1. Computer literate. 

  1. Language requirements: Excellent written and oral English-language skills will be required.  

  1. For non-EU applicants a work permit will be required
