Marios Thoma 

Biography

Marios Thoma has received a B.Sc. in Biology from Newcastle University, UK, and an M.Sc. in Cognitive Systems from the Open University of Cyprus (OUC). His research interests lie in the intersection of Machine Learning, Biology and Evolution. He has previously worked as a Research Associate at the Computational Cognition Lab at OUC, under the MARI-Sense project, working on the development of Expert Systems that make use of Neural-Symbolic integration. In addition, in a previous collaboration with the BIO-SCENT MRG at CYENS, he was involved in the development of two cross-platform smartphone applications that incorporate Computer Vision: one that aimed at the enhancement of pedestrian safety in cities through the identification of potential obstructions in pedestrian walkways, and another for the automatic identification of artworks at the State Gallery of Contemporary Art in Nicosia, Cyprus
