About / Premises

The Centre began operations in 2018, with a small team of employees, and reached the end of 2020 with more than 85 researchers and supporting staff, with the goal to continue this upward trend, surpassing 120 employees by the end of 2021. Reflecting the growth of the CYENS family, all employees and operations are moving to the new -and final- location of the Centre: Dimarchias Square in old town Nicosia.

Located in the heart of the Quarter of Creative Industries, in the historic center of the city, next to the buffer zone and adjacent to the Municipality, CYENS enhances the ecosystem and the development of the wider area as a hub of innovative entrepreneurship and creativity.

The building designated to host CYENS, is a landmark of the capital and a fine example of the Modern Architecture Movement. It possesses immense potential to be transformed into a 2000m2 state-of-the-art facility apt to host the multi-dimensional functions of the proposed centre of excellence in research and innovation.

Its layout and connection to a network of open spaces and other facilities guarantee it is to become a hub for the vibrant community of aspiring entrepreneurs, professionals of the creative and cultural sector, academics, researchers and students; a melting pot of talent for innovation.

The building of the old Municipal Market will be restored and renovated according to National regulations for preserved buildings. Below are a few concept 3D visualisations of the restored Municipal Market as we envision it to accommodate the core activities of CYENS Centre of Excellence.
