It was a pleasure to welcome Mr. Kjartan Bjornsson, Head of the European Commission’s Unit for Cyprus Settlement Support, and his team as well as Mr. Sotos Ktoris and Mr. Ali Tuncay, the Coordinators of Bicommunal Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, to CYENS on March 10.

Together with UNDP Partnership for the Future colleagues led by Director Jakhongir Khaydarov, CYENS demonstrated the ways its Multidisciplinary Research groups use technology to promote Cyprus’ rich and varied cultural heritage. The group previewed the game developed to engage young people in a quest set in Othello’s Tower in the historic walled city of Famagusta and took a virtual tour of over a dozen cultural sites restored with EU support across the island. Work continues on these initiatives as well as on finding additional avenues to digitize Cyprus’ cultural heritage and using emerging technologies to illuminate the island’s multicultural past as well as to innovate towards a shared future.
