New research project titled "DESCANT - Detecting Stereotypes in Human Computational Tasks" was approved under the "Excellence Hubs" Program of the "RESTART 2016-2020" Programs for Research, Technological Development and Innovation, funded by the Promotion Foundation Research.

DESCANT shall contribute to the smart growth of R&D in Cyprus, as its objectives are in line with the Smart Specialization Strategy, which designates ICT as a horizontal priority, as well as Cyprus’ Digital Strategy Goals and specifically, Digital Entrepreneurship. DESCANT will be coordinated by Dr. Jahna Otterbacher, PI of the Transparency in Algorithms Group (TAG), within the Research Centre on Interactive Media, Smart Systems and Emerging Technologies (RISE - HO), and Assistant Professor at the Open University of Cyprus (OUC – PA1), where she leads the Cyprus Center for Algorithmic Transparency (CyCAT), an H2020 funded project. The DESCANT project pairs up the local RISE/CyCAT team with researchers from the University of Queensland (UQ), which is consistently ranked as one of the world’s top 50 universities.
