After a busy week of coding, gaming, training and fun, RISE is pleased to announce that 15 young people from across the island have completed RISE’s first “STEM and Gaming Summer Scholars” Program—a unique summer opportunity for high-school students interested in STEM fields and gaming technologies. Designed to act as an integrator of academic research and industrial innovation, RISE sees its Summer Scholars Program as one way to expose them to cutting-edge methods and Research in Interactive media, Smart systems and Emerging technologies – RISE. 

“These young minds—inspired by new technology and hungry to innovate—are essential to Cyprus’ economic future,” commented Costas Yenethlis, RISE’s Chief Innovation Officer.  “We hope it was a worthwhile experience for the students and look forward to making it a regular part of RISE’s ambitious list of annual events,” he continued.  Each student received a Certificate of Participation at an event at RISE’s temporary offices at PwC’s headquarters in Nicosia on Friday, July 12, 2019.

RISE is a centre of excellence in Cyprus focused on Research, Interactive media, Smart systems and Emerging technologies.  Its aim is to become a centre of excellence that integrates academic research and industrial innovation through knowledge and technology transfer on the island and in the region. It is a joint venture between the three public universities of Cyprus (University of Cyprus, Cyprus University of Technology, Open University of Cyprus), the Municipality of Nicosia, and two renowned international partners, the Max Planck Institute for Informatics (Germany) and University College London (UK). RISE will fuel scientific, technological, and economic growth in Cyprus and Europe harnessing the power of research to improve the marketplace and solve real-world problems.
