Position: Research Associate User Experience – Graphic Designer 

Category: An initial one-year employment contract will be offered with the possibility for renewal depending on performance and project needs.

About the position   

The position is under the HealthXR: Smart, Ubiquitous and Participatory Technologies for Healthcare Innovation MRG and focuses on developing content such as assets for VR to help in building VR experiences (e.g., editable avatars) to carry out fundamental research in virtual and augmented reality. The research will be applied to create psychophysiological interventions for patients with cancer and dementia.  

We are looking for a candidate who possesses skills in designing realistic assets for VR, as well as in creating branding and communication materials such as logos, banners, templates, and videos to disseminate our project results. The candidate should have prior experience in working with VR and filming, and experience with 360 cameras will be considered as an added advantage. 

The successful candidate will be encouraged to co-author publications in international conferences and journals, so basic knowledge of academic writing will count as an advantage. 

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Constantinos Pattichis, MRG Leader, and Dr. Maria Matsangidou, Senior Research Fellow, HealthXR: Smart, Ubiquitous and Participatory Technologies for Healthcare Innovation. 

Responsibilities of Research Associate:  

  1. Develop realistic assets for VR experiences, including editable avatars and other interactive elements. 

  1. Design branding and communication materials such as logos, banners, templates, and videos to disseminate project results. 

  1. Conduct fundamental research in virtual and augmented reality to support the development of psychophysiological interventions for patients with cancer and dementia. 

  1. Collaborate with the research team to conceptualize and implement VR content aligned with project objectives. 

  1. Utilize skills in VR design and filming to create immersive and engaging experiences for users. 

  1. Utilize 360 cameras and other relevant technologies to enhance VR content where applicable. 

  1. Assist in the preparation of academic publications for international conferences and journals. 

  1. Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in VR and healthcare innovation to inform project development and implementation. 

  1. Adhere to project timelines and milestones, ensuring timely completion of tasks and deliverables. 

  1. Participate in project meetings, discussions, and presentations as required. 

 

General qualifications and requirements 

  1. University Degree (Bachelor’s Degree or Degree of a level equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree) or Diploma or Certificate or other study title or qualifications in in Graphic Design; User Experience Design, or a related area. (Candidates with other backgrounds but an otherwise solid profile may also be considered). An M.Sc. / Ph.D. are not required but it will be considered as an advantage.  

  1. Ability to design realistic assets for VR; prior experience with human avatars will be considered an advantage. 

  1. Ability and independence to create branding and communication materials such as logos, banners, templates, and videos to disseminate our project results. 

  1. Prior experience in filming and video editing, as well as experience with 360 cameras, will be considered as an added advantage. 

  1. Experience in creating websites (even using web content management systems like WordPress). 

  1. Having previous research experience and publishing high-impact research papers is not required but will be considered an advantage. 

  1. Language requirements: Excellent written and oral English-language skills will be required.   

  1. For non-EU applicants a work permit will be required
