ICOM Kyoto 2019

This September, Theopisti Stylianou-Lambert presented a paper titled “The Future of Technology in Museums”, that was co-authored with Maria Shehade, at the 25^th ICOM General Conference (International Committee of Museum s) in Kyoto Japan. ICOM Kyoto 2019 attracted close to 4.000 museum professionals from around the world and it included a museum fair with companies that specialize on museum services. Some of those were companies that offer cutting edge technological solutions for museums.
 
ICOM Kyoto 2019 was a historical meeting as national and international ICOM committees were asked to vote for a new proposed museum definition. The proposed definition created an intense debate among museum professionals and the Extraordinary General Assembly has decided to postpose the vote with 70,41% of the voting members supporting postponement. The debates were the highlight of the conference and ICOM will be working in the next year to discuss and refine the proposed definition.
