This September, Theopisti Stylianou-Lambert presented a paper titled “The Future of Technology in Museums”, that was co-authored with Maria Shehade, at the 25th ICOM General Conference (International Committee of Museum s) in Kyoto Japan. ICOM Kyoto 2019 attracted close to 4.000 museum professionals from around the world and it included a museum fair with companies that specialize on museum services. Some of those were companies that offer cutting edge technological solutions for museums.

ICOM Kyoto 2019 was a historical meeting as national and international ICOM committees were asked to vote for a new proposed museum definition. The proposed definition created an intense debate among museum professionals and the Extraordinary General Assembly has decided to postpose the vote with 70,41% of the voting members supporting postponement. The debates were the highlight of the conference and ICOM will be working in the next year to discuss and refine the proposed definition.
