Enhancing the experience of museum’s visitors with the aid of wearable cameras

The automatic tracking of visitors in museums has been a rapidly evolving research area aiming to analyze activities, behaviors and experiences and understand what is happening at museums. Information such as what exhibitions and exhibits do visitors attend to, what exhibits visitors spend most time at, what visitors do when are in front of each exhibit, where is their point of view when are in front of each exhibit, what hours of the day are most busy at certain areas in the museum, etc., are very important for curators and museum professionals. Wearable cameras are increasingly being utilized in several applications to enhance the quality of citizens’ life. As part of an effort to utilize wearable cameras in museums and art galleries this project focuses on the development of advanced egocentric vision technologies to enhance the overall visiting experience and assist curators and other museum professionals.
